The Greatest Revival In History

In Jonah 3, we read that disobedient Jonah – you know, the one who ran from his calling – finally makes it to Ninevah. The city is so large that it takes three entire days to cross it! (Suddenly, Mexico City traffic doesn’t seem so bad!) It is filled with every kind of evil, and Jonah cried out to the people, saying, “Yet forty days and Ninevah shall be overthrown!” It was a simple message: doom is coming; you brought it upon yourselves.

Here’s the amazing part:

“So the people of Ninevah BELIEVED God, proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth from the GREATEST to the LEAST of them (verse 4).” Even the king laid aside his royal robes to participate! By royal decree every man, woman, child and servant was commanded to take part in crying out to God in city-wide repentance! What an incredible revival, or awakening, the people of Ninevah experienced!

And this is how God responded to their humility and faith: “Then God SAW THEIR WORKS, that they turned from their evil way; and God RELENTED from the disaster that He had said He would bring upon them, and He did not do it (verse 10).”

I want you to imagine with me if New York City would believe, proclaim a fast, and humbly ask for forgiveness. Imagine Los Angeles, Chicago or Dallas doing so. It is possible, my friend! Don’t be like Jonah and discount that city-wide revival can take place. Don’t cultivate the mindset that Jonah had, “They deserve what they get.” It’s not God’s will that ANY should perish. Cultivate His mindset, and let’s believe together for city-wide and nation-wide transformations!

Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; and to him who orders his conduct aright, I will show the salvation of God.” Psalm 50:23
